Boeing: Is politics really special interest?

Boeing, having lost the production contract of the new military air refueling tanker to Airbus is crying foul. Boeing is crying foul because they had to compete. The last go round for the contract a senator and the USAF realized Boeing bought out McDonnell Douglas to prevent competition. Consequently the bidding was reopened internationally. This stopped Boeing in their tracks from monopolizing the market and costing the U.S. government billions of dictated cost. Boeing is currently vowing revenge on the USAF and senator who effectively stopped them from ripping off America. Do the actions of Boeing validate the design of our current political process being centered around who profits the most, or is it designed in the interest of "We The People" as a whole? Support your answer. People: If you can't attend directly to answering the question...don't bother. Your emotions don't matter. The process is what is being examined. The lack of respondents, coupled with the answers already given tells me there exists the inability for people to critically think, compare and contrast, and come to a supported conclusion.

  1. you forgot to mention the next generation AMERICAN military refueling aircraft will be built in France...but then maybe you love French workers more than you do Americans the people involved in the 2004 incident are long gone...we've been buying from Boeing forever with no complaints about their products
  2. You forgot the part about "The deal was killed in 2004 after a former Boeing executive improperly recruited an Air Force official while she was still overseeing contracts involving prospective Boeing deals. The former Air Force official, Darleen Druyun, and a top Boeing executive both served time in prison, and the scandal led to the departure of Boeing's chief executive and several top Air Force officials." That's alright so did the people complaining. While I do believe American contractors only should build our military equipment, there was a reason...... Boeing got nailed!
  3. Have you ever flown on an Airbus? I dont blame Boeing for being pissed. They are an American aviation icon and have provided jobs for hundreds of thousands of Americans. The really bad thing is that everyone is screaming about America outsourcing jobs. I know the aircraft are supposed to be assembled here, but there will be fewer American jobs than we would have had if Boeing had won. I would rather see the entire system built here, than worry about Boeing being a monopoly.
  4. Doesn't it seem suspicious to you that Air Force announces to the public that a decision has been made? Yet the decision is not announced until several days later. I recall in the midst of waiting for the decision that an article suggested that the decision really was not made because the secret was so well kept. My initial conclusion would be "what's going on here?"
