I work for a USMC contract company and am entitled to Government per diem while traveling on business?

Is it legal for my company to not pay me my full per diem, and instead demand I produce receipts for meals while on business; those meals with receipts being the only percentage of my government authorized per diem that is actually paid?

  1. yes they can
  2. You bet - you're not a government employee, you work for the contractor.
  3. The government per diem is a giuideline. Sometimes a contract is set up where they is a max per employee..... it has to do with billable hours and all of that. I won't bore you with that part. Some companies are cool in the fact that they just pay your per diem outright and the rest is up to you. But often that amount is set really low. But it is standard practice to do what your company is doing. There has to be some sort of accountabilty. That helpes the comapny tax wise and if IG snoops around. You are only claiming meals? Every situation is different but what about say taxis, hotels and such? If you are new at the game find someone who can teach you the art of being "creative" with your reciepts. I would have to know more. Does your company book your hotel, transportation and all of that? Do you host business meetings and such? One little cost saver is to get a credit card that is linked to a particular airline. Use that card for everything and get airline miles.
