New to eBay, outbidded everytime I bid?

Hi, I just signed up for eBay and new to this whole online bidding process. I'm currently bidding for an item that started out as $0.01 and is right now $15.00. I have one question, every time I place a bid larger than the current price I get outbidded immediately right after I confirm my bid. How does the other bidder do that? I really need this item and I'm worried that if I bid at the last second I will be outbidded once again. Appreciate any help.

  1. If your new bid is lower than the highest bid set by the other person, it will come back as you being outbid. You will need to set your maximum bid higher than anyone else's maximum bid. You should just set your maximum bid as the highest you are willing to pay. If others outbid you, then you won't be disappointed.
  2. I had the same problem when i started out on ebay. I quickly learned to bid the highest i was willing to pay, even if you don't win you still make the guy who outbid you pay more. I would check to see if there are more of the same item available, perhaps from some other seller.
  3. Yes they call that proxy bidding, ebay is bidding on behalf on another bidder who has previously entered their max bid. May I offer you some advice, most experienced ebayers use a sniping program ie gixen.com.*(there are heaps of sniping programs.) This program will place your max bid in the final seconds of the auction. This reduces the chance of bidding war with other bidders & you may get the item cheaper! I like winning auctions at 99 cents ;-) Have fun & if you are unsure of about anything in the listing, always contact the seller..
