Is it just me or is this government determined to make the UK the gambling capital of the world?

It started with the lottery once a week, now we have now what seems a hundred different versions of it, we have scratchcards, again hundreds of different ones. Betting shops now look more like normal shops, with plain glass windows to try and hook more people. We have online gambling, turn on the tv after midnight and its all just gambling shows. Listen to any commercial radio station and they are playing "games" like reverse auctions. They want to build casinos everywhere and now they have passed a new gambling act, so now gambling firms can advertise on tv among other things. Shouldnt the government try and protect the most vulnerable people in society? not make it even more easier to get hooked on gambling, look what they have done with alcohol, record levels of alcohol abuse. Pathetic, this government only cares about one thing, money, forget future problems.

  1. Gambling is the worst addiction of the lot, you might as well pour money into the pockets of shareholders and the government.
  2. AND NERO FIDDLED WHILE ROME BURNED.
  3. a lot of things are addictive if they are abused, should the government ban coffee? I dont think you have such a firm statement, its up to the individual to control their impulses. The government cant be blamed for every single thing the public do.
  4. they are trying to drain us of our last pennys.
  5. gordon brown will because his greedy little beedy eyes see more tax tax taxes. so long as he can collect he will continue to prostitute the goverment and the people the the world. cant wait for a general electio. so we can vote the charleton out. since we got him pushed on us with out a vote
  6. HOW ELSE ARE THEY GONNA GET THEIR MONEY. THEY ROBB PETER TO PAY PAUL. FOR EXAMPLE, THEY ARE NOW LOSING MONEY ON FAGS AND BOOZE BECAUSE OF THE BANS SO THEY GET IT BACK ANOTHER WAY
  7. We are not allowed to have anything at all. They know that the on scratch cards, if you win say £5 you will instantly buy 5 more cards which by law of averages will all be losers, if you win £25 you will go down the pub and buy a Beer or Three or Go to an offie and get some Beers in. QUOTE: Betting shops now look more like normal shops, with plain glass windows to try and hook more people. True but... Corner shops now look more like Betting shop, sorry Turf Accountants as they often prefer to be called.
  8. Go on a diet!! GREED is the worst thing in this country!!!
  9. i,ll give you 10 /1 they are, no sorry make that 8/1 no no 6/1....
  10. Quite agree its all about money and the government want there fair share.Gambling is just as addictive and causes a lot of problems.
  11. At the moment there is more things to worry about in this country than gambling. Fair enough gambling can ruin some people's life, but its their choice. And yes crispy i agree with you about those stupid TV show. Maybe government should leave the gambling problem, till after they have sorted out the IMMIGRANTS. If i got a £1 for every immigrant in this country, I would be sooo rich!
  12. The fact is that some people like to gamble. Where there's demand for a service and a profit to be made someone will always be there to provide it. It's not a choice between a society with gambling and a society with none, but a between one with illegal uncontrolled or legal, regulated gambling (with the extra tax revenue). If you restrict / ban gambling you just make the criminals more powerful.
  13. anything seedy that makes money, new labour...no longer anything to do with the working class, they betrayed them all, and any outher class you care to mention.
  14. No, it's not just you. I do not see how it would benefit the government to turn you into the gambling capital of the world. Now if they could earn some money from the punters by allowing gambling in casinos and lotteries and suchlike, they would certainly want to go for that, and to hell with the social consequences. But is it just the government? Surely the interested groups are much more diverse than just the government? Everyone who reckons they can make money from gamblers are going to join in the race to get their share of the funds.
  15. not my problem
  16. With a 'Puritan' PM [Gordon Brown] at the helm, UK is now starting to pull back from the gambling madness of the previous Blair administration. The plan for the 'big casinos' has either been shelved or cancelled altogether. One of our earlier exstravagances was a lottery created by no less than Oliver Cromwell. Home · Gambling CommissionRegulatory body for casinos, bingo clubs, gaming machines and the larger society and all local authority lotteries in Great Britain. http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk In the USA they have very sensibly made it illegal to gamble on-line. Time we did something about that here in UK. Gambling just like boozing is now almost out of control here in UK. Funny thing though because "A lottery is the best form of taxation, since only the willing will pay." Ben Franklin.
  17. I know them bloody bingo sites!!! keep taking me money and not giving anything back......
  18. There must be some benefit for them in it. Advertising casinos is stupid. As if the impressionable needed any further incentive to get themselves into debt.
