- Well one of the easy ways is to become designated a DBE disadvantaged business enterprise. Government agencies automatically designate a certain % of their business to those kinds of businesses. YOu can get certified as a DBE or HUB if you are 51% woman or minority owned, controlled and operated. AND/OR in some areas you can get certified if your business is located in a HUB Zone or Economic Empowerment Zone and hires from within that community. Go to www. score.org and find out who your local chapter person is. SCORE is a free service afiliated with the SBA that offers free consulting for small business owners. They may steer you towards the right place.
- The government gives a certain percent of their jobs to small businesses so make sure you are bidding on the small business jobs. Also, you may try getting a foot in the door as a subcontractor to the main contractor on a job. You would just have to tie in with another (generally larger) contracting company and hope they win the bid.
