How do businesses bid on I.T staffing/contracting jobs?

Do businesses come to them or is there a bidding process?

  1. I work for a consulting/recruiting company. I would say the first thing to do is establish a relationship with the client. Get on the phone and make the calls. Have lunch. Get that first meeting. Provide real customer service, not just communication through email. In the first meeting, your only goal is to get a second meeting. Spend some time before you go to this first meeting learning about the client company so that you have something to talk about and it will show that you are knowledgeable about the field. In this first meeting, learn about the person you are with, hobbies, goals, kids, whatever it is that sparks conversation. If you show up with the intention of selling your company and services, you're just going to be another salesman. Become someone your client enjoys spending time with and doing business with. Then you have a chance that when your client has a project, they will send you an RFP (request for proposal). Then is the time to sell your company. Research and write an awesome proposal. Be aware that there are probably a few companies bidding for the same contract. Hope this helps.
