Graphic Artist Bidding Process?

I'm looking at having a new logo made for my library. Can anyone tell me how I can get several graphic artists to bid for the project or create work for us and then we select the logo we like the best. I figure the more graphic artists the better. Am I wrong? We have no style in mind.

  1. Contact a number graphic artists. Tell them you'd like them to produce a logo for you 'on spec' (in other words make it clear that *only* the final selected logo will be paid for) and then wait. You may be surprised how few takers you get though, as most professional graphic artists do not undertake speculative projects. Your best bet would be to approach your local art college and ask the students to design a logo for you, as the kudos of having their design picked for use in 'the real world' will probably be enough incentive for them.
