please guide on procedure to buy and import material from ebay.com into india?
I am an ordinary citizen of India, residing in Hyderabad , working with private sector organisation in Hyderabad. I would like to buy some items listed on ebay.com ( international edition) where in the payment is to be made using my credit card in USD. My queries are 1)Am I allowed to buy foreign made goods directly or do I compulsorily have to go via a trader? 2)While buying and bringing the same to India , where do I pay the customs duty ? how do I clear my material? 3)Is there any prior clearances, permissions to be taken before I can buy/bid on any of these items ( example ring made of jade stone / amethyst crystal / house security alarm /etc.) 4)The above is to be used for personal use only and not for any resale. 5)Please guide me as to what procedures I need to apply? - Ebay items are usually sold by individuals. If you locate an item you wish to buy you must make sure the buyer is willing to ship the item to India. As many people are unwilling to ship items out of their country of orgin. It is best to inquire a few days before the auction ends. Email the seller asking the exact cost to ship the item to your city in India. Depending on the seller they should get back to your with a shipping cost in a timely manner. You can then decide if you wish to bid on their item or keep looking. As for additional customs charges. You would have to contact your local post office not sure. I have shipped many items over seas Japan, England etc. I was never asked for additional fees on my end and never had a customer complain so don't know about that. Before you bid check the sellers feedback ratings before you buy also. Just remember no one is perfect but cronic complaints is a big red flag not to buy from that person. Most sellers usually accept Pay Pal for payment. Best thing if you have a problem it is easier to get your money back. I had a seller ship my items to someone else and then refused to refund my money. Tracking number showed they sent item to different state. Filed Pay Pal complaint took about 30 days to get refund but I did.
