What has the Iraq War gained us the U.S. citizens?

We delivered a new ally to Iran. We lost nearly 4,000 American lives and suffered another 29,000 wounded. We spent $400 billion, by Pentagon accounting. We increased the federal deficit to $9 trillion. We've made the Middle East more, not less, unstable. American prestige is in the trash can. Oil is more than $100 a barrel. The military is strained to the breaking point, so we are now recruiting high-school dropouts and people with criminal records. The American economy is on the tipping point of disaster. Bush's disapproval rating is at 65 percent. Iraq is by no means stable. The destruction of infrastructure and loss of life in Iraq have, many say, permanently wrecked the country. The so-called rebuilding of Iraq has, from the beginning, been a cluster-blunder marked by greed, corruption, no-bid contracts and incompetence. To a large extent, we have lost our economic independence. Most of the brands you see advertised on television are Japanese; most of the stuff we buy is made in China. We are the biggest debtor nation in the world. The product of our public education system sucks when compared with most of the industrial world. If it weren't for foreigners with Ph.D.'s in the sciences and engineering, many of our faculties would be lacking enough warm bodies to teach. You might think about that before you gripe about Muslims. The dollar has lost so much purchasing power, foreigners are beginning to demand payment in euros. I am sorry but you cannot equate our way of life with theres. They are two completely different societies and cultures. I am also sure that maybe they are wishing we never invaded so their children could have running water, electricity, and working sewage. And don't give me the we did it because it was the right thing to do speech because there are dictators who have killed more people and are worse than Saddam Hussein and we do nothing to them.

  1. A launching pad from which to bomb, and/or invade Iran.
  2. Another day older and deeper in debt .
  3. i'd be happy if we got cheap gas, but bush can't do nothing wright
  4. How about preventing a war that another generation won't have to fight.
  5. All of the above and a Democrat in the Whitehouse-FINALLY! Seriously, we didn't gain anything!
  6. Location, location ,location. Now we have bases smack dab in the middle east .Take care of any threat in minutes.
  7. no more Saddam....and a chance for the 20 million or so people there to have a decent life....! just like we did with Europe, Asia, ec... a noble cause if you ask me!
  8. We get to point at anyone who voted for Bush and laugh our butts off.
  9. What war? You're not talking about that little civil war they have going on cause we aren't fighting that BS. We're fighting the insurgents who aren't even from Iraq and there's no war with them.
  10. Not a thing, but we lost plenty, starting with thousands of lives, US and Iraqi.
  11. Absolutely nothing whatsoever except loss of American lives and 500 billion $$$ or so. However large oil corporations and other big business which have on their payroll Bush, Cheney, their cronies and Republican-Neocons gained an astronomical amounts of money at the expense of lives of American and Iraqi's people.
  12. This situation has given some citizens the ability to realistically look at their government and know what it is capable of for corporate profit. Hopefully it will have spawned a new generation of Americans who understand what this country is supposed to be and will set the course for turning it back to what it was. Hopefully all the lies, monetary waste and international scorn were not a total and complete loss and something good will come out of. Maybe now enough people will realize what is happened and say enough and actually make change instead of just complaining about how nothing ever changes.
  13. We have gained the ability to know we are helping others in need. The way I see it, is that there are mothers and fathers over there just HOPING that we succeed, so their kids have a better life than what they had. Seriously, just think about it, if it were you and your kids.......think.
