Got any comments about the USAF tanker contract that went to a foreign contractor?
Just curious if anyone knows about this deal that went went to the European Aerospace Defense and Space / Northrop Grumman to build the next generation air refueling tanker. It was worth up to $44 billion, and would have supported about 9,000 jobs here in the US. Boeing was the other major bidder for the contract, and is pretty pissed that they were not awarded the business. I have seen something about some Boeing execs getting caught and doing Federal time for some improprieties during the bid process, and somehow McCain is being blamed for Boeing losing the bid. How is he tangled up in all that, and how could it be HIS fault? What I don't understand is why a foreign company would ever be allowed to bid on a US military contract. I tell you, when I take my rightful place as National Sovereign Leader of the US, I will stop such nonsense. (Just kidding, of course. The voices told me that I shouldn't tell anyone about that.) EDIT: Hey J.D.B., get your panties out of a twist and don't get offended so easilly there kid. I asked because I don't know much about the situation. We can't all be as smart as you are. They usual way to gain info about something you don't know about is to ask questions, right? You got a thumbs down for being a jerk. Cornelius, my hat is off to you. You got me. Hoist one for me. I'm banged up from an on duty injury and can't have one. I could swallow one of these little yellow pills for you, but it's just not the same.
Public Comments
- I did my best to sum up how I felt about it in response to a question that appeared to being saying John McCain made that decision. McCain had a big part in stopping that outrageous lease deal a couple of years back. One of the government contracting officers involved in the deal actually was given a job at Boeing. The scandal resulted in the resignation of several Boeing executives and jail time for a couple of people. One issue is that Boeing said the contract would result in 44,000 US jobs and Scarebus says it will create 25,000 US jobs. I don't think we have the luxury of giving up 19,000 jobs in todays economy.
- Free market, right? May the best plane-maker win. The Airbus version carries more fuel and has a longer range. For the role of mid-air refueling, this seems like a critical advantage.
- So are you asking about foreign bidders for the US or making a political statement? And Northop Grumman has been involved with many US projects in the past. This isn't anything new.
- The contract was awarded to Northorp Grumman in partnership with EADS. They will be built in the U.S. and no jobs will be leaving the country. In fact is is estimated to create an additional 27,000 jobs in this country. The design chosen is superior than the Boeing design.
- You really should know what your talking about before you ask a question.. The Northrop Grumman plant, right here in Melbourne Florida got the contract and I will be their personally to see the tankers built.. I'm an American and so are 99% of my co-workers... Hey why the "thumbs down"? Did I say something that wasn't true?
- yes this could cost MCcain the lection because he killeda bill 4 years ago that would havesent the contratc to Bowin,g instead he sends this contract to companie to off shore there work, another Repubican who want to create jobs in American sending those jobs over seas
- Can I be Vice National Sovereign Leader? Please? Pretty Please? Unfortunately I don't know much about the situation, but I'll be looking into it now, thanks.
- Just as capitalism is the American way, so is whining and crying "NOT FAIR!!!" Then again, given the federal deficit, why not whine. It's not like the government is bargain shopping on anything else!!!!!
- Congratulations! You Have just been globalised! And, I wish you luck, laddy.... The government is not running the government. The Constitution has become a joke. The world has settled on the dollar as the mark of justice. In this case, your dollar. About three decades back, Pittsburg PA needed steel to refurbish its bridges. The bid went to a Japanese company, thereby contributing to the failure of many American steel producers which were part of the economic base of the city of Pittsburg. Pathetic, eh? Yet, as a taxpayer, you insist on a shrinking government that spends less, while hoping that the bridge you drive over does not collapse while you are on it. If you are like most Americans, you already have plans on how to use your IRS rebate. Once the electorate learns that they can vote in personal government subsidies, the nation and the society it contains are doomed. Are you in that group? Insist that you government spend less, but refuse to feel the pain when the jobs leave your home town. OR, insist that the government keep jobs local, and refuse to feel the pain when taxes go up. You choose. But, of course, you have already chosen, with your high speed internet and your hi definition widescreen and your new car. And your X-Box and your PSP. And your new Browning. And your 3,000 sq ft home with 12 foot ceilings. Don't have this stuff? Neither do I. My home is a thirty year old fall down, my car is nine years old and has a hundred forty klicks on it, I am worried about my next electric bill, and I have no way to send my eighteen year old son to college. The thought that he will forever be a minimum wage clerk kills me. All of this, and I have a great job with a good paycheck. You may be right! Something is WRONG! What is wrong is that we feel we should live better than the rest of the world, after we have saved it again and again on the battlefield. The folks with the money feel that the ones we saved should become better consumers and fatten their money belts. These are the guys really running the world. Not you and me. Welcome to the global village!
