Pro-illegals: how do you explain this study of the cost of illegals?

The Real Cost of Immigration Investor’s Business Daily, April 04, 2008 http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/newstex/IBD-0001-24278349.htm Immigration: As some experts tell Congress to fight a possible recession with more immigrants, a respected economist warns that immigration’s costs are grossly underestimated— because the government won’t study them. Set for release Tuesday is a report published by Social Contract magazine, “The Fiscal Impact of Immigration: An Analysis of the Costs to 15 Federal Departments and Agencies.” The 70-page study was conducted by Manhattan Institute adjunct fellow Edwin S. Rubenstein. As senior economist at W.R. Grace & Co. in the 1980s, he directed in-depth studies of government waste for the Grace Commission that sparked much popular outrage against Washington’s spendthrift habits. Rubenstein found that each immigrant costs taxpayers more than $9,000, while every immigrant household of four costs $36,000 in taxes.

  1. They can't . They don't think logically. MENSA isn't struggling under the weight of their membership applications. Their logic is founded in emotions and allegations of racism, not fundamental facts, figures, and rationale. Good luck trying to get something substantive in response.
  2. They can counter with emotion, stupidity and false claims of racism. That's all they have.
  3. First explain what you mean by the term "pro illegals". People throw it around like it has some significance when it has none. I don;t care what the study says. It's doesn't change the fact that 20 million people are not going to be deported.
  4. what i can tell u is that i see a lot of 1980s ( not today ) there and that they add some facts which i have previously read about such as the percentage of "criminal aliens" which are in reality 6 percent and not the percentage they give ( i saw this also in '60 minutes' ) . so in reality even when they give some numbers they are way kind of old plus and some were distorted , plus there has actually been studies ( the article claims there hasn't been ) which the government have made such as the study made by the state of Texas and their comptroller . by the way nobody is denying that the undocumented do have a cost although most of this kind of "reports" usually ignore the taxes they pay ( housing , IRS taxes and the unavoidable sale taxes , plus the near to trillion dolalrs all the hispanics spens in the USA ) . my source : Undocumented Immigrants in Texas: A Financial Analysis of the Impact to the State Budget and Economy December 2006 This is the first time any state has done a comprehensive financial analysis of the impact of undocumented immigrants on a state's budget and economy, looking at gross state product, revenues generated, taxes paid and the cost of state services. The absence of the estimated 1.4 million undocumented immigrants in Texas in fiscal 2005 would have been a loss to our gross state product of $17.7 billion. Undocumented immigrants produced $1.58 billion in state revenues, which exceeded the $1.16 billion in state services they received. However, local governments bore the burden of $1.44 billion in uncompensated health care costs and local law enforcement costs not paid for by the state. http://www.window.state.tx.us/specialrpt/undocumented/
  5. The same way I would explain the costs of American citizens on welfare and other government benefits, although I don't know of any illegal who gets government assistance.I know that the kids of illegals(if they're citizens) can get it,but that don't go under illegals getting benefits, because they don't,their kids do.Also, many illegal immigrants pay taxes and cannot get them back which then the government gets! Nobody seems to mention the positive things!
  6. How can they even get a figure. They don't know how many undocumented illegals we actually have here. If they know the amount, than they know where to find them, kind hard if they are undocumented.
  7. They are speechless...therefore had decided not to answer this question
  8. its easily explained... the government is not doing their job in enforcing it's laws. the nation with the laws gives incentives to stay. hating people is seriously like getting mad at someone that comes into your house without permission, however everyone IN your house kept saying ITS OK COME!.... it's not these people's fault that the AMERICAN BUILT ideal of the "American Dream" is still appealing to people. the fault lies in the government and businesses. OHHHHH...AND BTW... if it werent illegals "taking over" jobs, then it would be outsourcing...its called CAPITALISM..... you enjoy its benefits, now the bad part is coming so..take it like a man so to speak
  9. They don't - as you can see by some of these answers, they are delusional - CBS news has a special report on immigration nation tonite (it was on all week) showing the strain on healthcare and social programs - I love the argument that they pay taxes and "don't get them back" LOL - they have no SS number unless they stole it, which gives the poor citizen they stole it from years of problems They use our emergency rooms like doctors offices, have expensive childbirth procedures ($3-5k) and try to name their kids after Americans to help them blend better - I am all for a better life, but do it legally - I wouldn't want a life looking over my shoulder - they could disappear and there is no proof they were here - that's a thought If we all reported at least 1 per day (800-375-5283) they would all go away! Our so-called representatives in Washington need to know how much we all want them gone - guest worker maybe, limits, but amnesty over my dead body! There will be a civil war, count on it!
  10. It seems that for every study showing what a financial drain illegal immigrants are on the economy, there are studies from equally impressive thinking heads that show that illegal immigrants contribute more than they take. Below is an example from the Continuing Study of the California Economy 2008 Analysis.
  11. I would say a few things: 1. this study only looks at one side of the picture, the cost of illegal immigrants. It makes no mention of the benefits of illegal immigration. 2. this study does not compare the cost of illegal immigration to the cost of legal immigration or US citizens. For example, it mentions the cost of keeping illegal immigrants in prison, but it makes no mention of the costs of keeping Americans in jail. Without a comparison, we have no way of evaluating the data. 3. There are several other studies that reach the opposite results. It is possible to fudge the numbers to get whatever conclusion you want.
  12. Bub, Why worry , how much money go to the emigrants when we spend way more going to war ? why worry about emigrants ,when we spend way more for a "toiler seat " in some Federal office? Tell me who is going to do what they do ? You ? Who? Not that self righteous frustrated woman who want a "civil war", Chris ,I think she call her self. BTW Girl, who is going to be on your side? Look like with that many emigrants and us, who are on their side , you will be the minority . May be you need to ask you husband to do his home work better , so you cool off some, look like you need it.
  13. I am not a pro illegal. However, I will give you my opinion on illegal immigration. The illegal immigrants will continue to corrupt America. We allow anyone to come in here, pop out babies like machine guns, (bonus check for welfare, which means more money) and allow anyone born here to become automatic U.S. citizens. Think of the U.S. as a small jar. Think of the world as a massive glass container. The marbles represent the people...as long as you try to put more and more in from the large jar (represents the entire world), to the small jar (U.S.), eventually, it will start overflowing. That is what is happening...overpopulation is HUGE right now. The rate we are going at, we won't ever be able to build enough roads, houses, schools, hospitals, etc., the way we are growing. The economy is bashed every single year. I have no idea how much the budget is for illegals, but it has to be billions, even trillions of dollars. They come here, get free food, health care, rob from Social Security, live off of welfare. The more kids they have, the more checks they get, so why not have eight to ten kids? The financial burden is horrible...no telling how many trillions these illegals are costing us yearly. How do we stop this crisis? Well, just take the benefits away. If we didn't have all the FREE things to offer, they wouldn't be coming here. The education...HAVE ALL BOOKS IN ENGLISH. Don't let the illegals get college education...take them back to Mexico if they can't get citizenship (it's not like it's hard in the first place...it may be a long process, but not hard.) The unemployment rates will continue to rise because they come here, don't work or anything, get everything for FREE, so why should they work...they just get everything handed to them in the first place. If they get paid to sit on their butts eating burritos all day instead of working, why not? Bringing more people in to take jobs...BS! If a legal U.S. citizen needs a job bad enough, he/she will do whatever they have to do to get that extra money. If you can't handle the answer, don't ask the question.
  14. How do illegals get government benefits?.. they use fake ss numbers to work, that's it.. they can't use those ss numbers to get government benefits. They're the backbone of this country and only get crap from people like you simply because they're not "legal". It's b.s., i wish i had 1 percent of the work ethic that these illegals have.
