what a hell is china doing in africa?

i think they just want to steal african resources to feed their booming economy, back here they tell their citizens that they are helping africa as if they offer assistances for free. all they do is buil a single primary school for free and offer bribes so that their companies can win multi billion dollar government contracts and tenders. chinese are so corrupt and all they are doing is just steal african resources and fool its citizens that they are helping africa. i am not american, leave america alone, face me!

  1. um yeah....what is the question? If it is "am I surprised by this info?", the answer is no
  2. tourism
  3. Yep, that's about it.
  4. You must be a stupid American that has no clue about the world. China has been trading in Africa for well over 30 years. And yes they provide economic assistance to those nations. Much like the America does with every nation! At least Chinese are honest about what they do. They only give economic aid to friendly countries, the US gives aid to anyone. And whats the difference between what the US does and what China does? You are really stupid and misinformed. China never lies about what it is doing or its intentions, the US can't say that. Corruption is very rampant in the west! Don't you read the controlled newspapers in the west? GD! I can't argue with a fool.
  5. You do realize that the only reason ANY nation does business with other nations is to get some sort of gain for themselves, right? The gain is usually economic or diplomatic, but no nation does business with another to "help them". That's capitalism for you! (and before someone says "China's Communist", I will just say that China is actually a state-run capitalist state, so it acts accordingly.)
  6. Yes. What you posted is true and the local people (African environmental protection activists) are claiming that. I have seen the facts with video many times filmed by Japanese media and some American medias. And to make matters worse, the bureaucrats are receiving bribes and let Chinese business persons go free. Lots forest are becoming bald and Nigerian and Sudan's oilfields will be empty in the not-so-distant future. Also African business men come and live in China are running the business between 2 countries. Chinese people don't know the fact very much. Because this kind information is not on the air in China so much. They focus on the resouces which they need and money only. Not on the environmental issues. You know China is now suffering serious water shortage as well. People live in the cities don't know much. But surrounding provinces are facing serious water shortage, because they were ordered to provide their water preferentially to the cities. We should hear the real voice from local people. Because Han Chinese often tend to speak like a "spokesman", despite local people haven't issued any comments, with crappy "conclusion". Actually they can't speak for another. Can't speak not only for Africans, but also for Tibetan, Taiwanese, and Nei Mongolians, etc, which Han Chinese doing all the time. And immitate my words this time, too?
  7. In recent years, thanks to the efforts by both sides, trade and economic cooperation between China and African countries have achieved a great leap-forward. Overall trade with China surged by 39% between 2004 and 2005, and in 2006, it reached a value of US$55.5 billion from just US$4 billion a decade earlier. The growth rates of many African countries essentially doubled in the past five years. Progress this great has not been seen in the region since the early 1970’s. China is also helping many African nations to build a much-needed infrastructure to develop their economic and industry. This includes road maintenance and health care services in Nigeria, a hydroelectric dam with Ghana, iron ore and railroad deals with Gabon, and a $3 billion copper smelter deal with Zambia. In fact, the African Union Conference Center located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia was donated by China. China is not interfering with the domestic affairs of African nations. China is in Africa for economic reasons and is not doing it militarily, but rather diplomatically. By investing in Africa, China wants three things: (1) Raw materials to supply their expanding economy (2) Prove to the world that guns and conflict don't need to be used to get what a country needs. (3) Prove to the world they are better then the USA (and the west) China believes in diplomacy and it right now they are getting what they need, not by force, or telling other countries what to do, or demanding change and reforms. In conclusion, China is a possible force of good in Africa; the West should help harness that potential. Edit: To Joriental: Actually , I interviewed the Ethiopian Ambassador himself in the Ethiopian Embassy in Beijing last month. So I think this qualifies me to comment on this issue. You are right, 'We should hear the real voice from local people'. You are not even a Chinese! Does that mean you can't comment on China's issues? Of course not! Actually YOU can't speak for another. Can't speak not only for Chinese, but also for people from Hong Kong, Taiwanese, and Africans. Don't you think you are a bit hypocritical? And just for the record, I am not in anyway saying that China is in Africa to save the people. We are there for economic reasons just like everyone else. We are no saint, but we also not exploiters. We are just business people. Edit: You want sources of my claims? Here you go, enjoy reading them.
  8. dondon and chanklp is correct. 'leave american alone'? That sounded pretty american to me. and face you? who are you? the world police? The descendent of christ? saints? What have you done to help them, since you are a saint? Stop acting like a saint and start the hypocritical finger pointing, really. Real saints like mother theresa will not ask this kind of questions and attempt to stir up anger with 0.1% of truth. They will go there and see for themselves and help them. you? Why don't you ask what the hell is american doing in Iraq, killing so many people? Oh, because you already knew the answer, to FREE and SAVE them. jorienta... top contributor for Japan. why am I not surprised? Whatever, I really LAUGH OUT LOUD when I read your comment, DUH of course Y!A. How can people like you be a top contributor or even a contibutor for Japan in real life? and seriously, I'm pretty sure everyone understood what I mean, except you. GAL (Get A Life)
  9. A brief insight to China-Africa ties. Like other African leaders, Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi returned home from a three-day summit in Beijing with enthusiastic praise for his hosts and an armful of new economic agreements. More Ethiopian agricultural products would be allowed into China duty-free, he revealed, and China had pledged some $500 mn for various development projects in Ethiopia. “China is an inspiration for all of us,” he added. “What China shows to Africa is that it is indeed possible to turn the corner on economic development.” Fifty years after China established its first diplomatic ties with an African country, the third summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was held 3–5 November. It marked the biggest-ever gathering between Chinese and African leaders. All 48 African countries that have diplomatic relations with China took part — with most of their delegations led by presidents or prime ministers. In addition, hundreds of African businesspeople went for a two-day trade exhibit immediately following the summit, eager to explore new market outlets in the most populous country in the world, which has one of the fastest growing economies. ‘New type’ partnership Building on several years of growing exchanges between China and Africa, the summit approved a three-year action plan to forge a “new type of strategic partnership.” That partnership, the plan says, would be based on pragmatic cooperation, equality and mutual benefit. The plan pledges that China will: Double aid to Africa by 2009 (to about $1 bn) Set up a $5 bn China-Africa development fund to encourage Chinese companies to invest in Africa Provide $3 bn in preferential loans and $2 bn in preferential buyer’s credits to African countries Cancel all debt stemming from Chinese interest-free government loans that matured by the end of 2005, for the 31 highly indebted and least developed countries (LDCs) in Africa that have relations with China (an amount estimated at around $1.4 bn) Further open China’s markets to exports from African LDCs by increasing from 190 to 440 the number of products receiving zero-tariff treatment Train 15,000 African professionals, double the number of Chinese government scholarships given annually to Africans (to 4,000) and send 100 senior agricultural experts and 300 youth volunteers Build 30 hospitals, 30 malaria treatment centres and 100 rural schools. China also vowed to support the African Union, the continent’s regional organization, including by building a new convention centre at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa. It likewise reaffirmed its commitment to the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), the AU’s development plan. The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, which will hold its next summit in Egypt in 2009, is an important vehicle for dialogue on Africa’s behalf, noted UN Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser on Africa Legwaila Joseph Legwaila, who represented the UN at the meeting. The forum, he said, lends a “strong voice” to the UN’s work to promote African interests among developed countries, including on aid, debt relief, market access and support for Africa’s anti-poverty efforts.
  10. Trying to look good. Oh, and if this answer: "And yes they provide economic assistance to those nations. Much like the America does with every nation! At least Chinese are honest about what they do. They only give economic aid to friendly countries, the US gives aid to anyone. And whats the difference between what the US does and what China does? You are really stupid and misinformed. China never lies about what it is doing or its intentions, the US can't say that." is true, then I'm the Queen of Ombadoomba. In my 10 years in this country--living in small villages, large cities and towns--I've never known a Chinese person who wouldn't tell a lie at the drop of a hat if he thought it would in any way make him look better, or be at all what you wanted to here. This is just part of working and living in China--all us foreigner just have to get used to the constant lying and assume that we're never being told the truth unless we have outside confirmation of it.
  11. They are trying to dig the roots of the slaves that were forcibly taken to America.
  12. their trying to gain strategic positions around the world to control it in the future if the u.s. falls from power. they want the food and resources there to feed its over a billion and counting population in china. their very selfish even to their east asian and south east asian neighbors. they like hogging parts of the south china sea to get more fish and hardly leave any for its neighbors.
  13. Well you know at least they won't enslave them just like we European did hundreds of years ago. Being French, living in China, I'm not proud of my country did in those times. But China is not doing the same. And you should come here in Guangzhou / Canton. You will see lots of Africans here doing business in China. Do you think they would be there if China was really stealing from them. You ignorant.
  14. Africa has decided to borrow from China because they can get loans without strings attached. Loans from the world bank sucked compared to loaning from China, so the Africans just accepted China's offer. With the loans to Africa, China is able to negotiate resource deals because loans really help a country that need money desperately. China investing in Africa has actually improved Africa. Hey if you think China is corrupt, look at the USA. The world's biggest debtor. GWB's illegal Iraq war- a war for oil. China is showing the west that it doesn't need to use force to win a war over resources. Americans who support the Iraq war are total idiots. They are stupid enough to believe their retarded leader's lies. China is actually telling the world what it is doing. You who asked this question is an ignorant American who didn't look at what is happening in Iraq before criticizing. I am trying telling you even though China is abusing human rights, look at how many people your country are killing in Iraq.
