I seperated from the Army before my contract was up. I owe the Government 9000, can I file bankruptcy?

Right before I came back from Iraq there was a lot of pressure on me to reenlist, so I did. I had a hard time readjusting to life after Iraq, and I ended up getting discharged.

  1. You can file for bankruptcy protection but they will not discharge that debt. Debts to the government are not dischargeable in bankruptcy. All you'll accomplish is the ruination of your credit.
  2. The amount owed to the Government can not be included in the bankruptcy this includes signing bonuses and student loans. So if this is your only debt I wouldn't do it.
  3. i had to pay mine back after i got out the 1st time. they gonna take all of your income tax money. also you can make a pament plan agreement to manke monthly installments. unfortunately for me i came in three months later so my first two months in were checkless or i only was gettin 200 each check. plus when i got out they kept my last check which was about 2,000 soooo...

She did some research and discovered the Gov/IRS lied (say it isn't so). When she filed bankruptcy the IRS debt was included. www.bankrupt-law.com Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Certain types of debts cannot be erased. They include child support and alimony, student loans and debts incurred as the result of fraud. If you've defrauded someone and a judgment has been made against you, that won't be erased either.
  5. I really feel for you but no you can't. It does not cover that, think of it this way... if you could, all the people who owed money from their taxes would go file bankruptcy. Try to set up a payment plan or maybe get a personal loan from a bank. I would not suggest doing that though because I am pretty sure that the gov't does not charge you interest on this type of debt.
