Why did Cheney think going into Iraq would be a quagmire in 1994, but now thinks we are welcomed "liberators"?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YENbElb5-xY What changed in the 10 years he said this and the invasion of Iraq? Oh, that's right, he became Vice President with far reaching powers to advance the neoconservative US global dominance agenda while making himself and his friends rich with no-bid government contracts.... Flip-flop? What changed?
Public Comments
- What changed? He became CEO of Haliburton and now owns tons of it's stock.
- He came to realize that Hussein was a wimp leading a bunch of wimps who would not fight, the only mistake was not killing all of them anyway.!~!
- his meat puppet was more easily manipulated. Sr. was more able to think for himself than Jr.
- CHENEY IS AN UNCARING GUN TOTING IDIOT WHO CARES NOT FOR AMERICA
- Cheney's policies and outlook changed when he had his stroke. Guess what, we have an occupation planned by a brain-damaged fanatic, and the Republicons feel honor bound to defend his policy. Of course, one would think that Republicons would place duty to country over duty to party, but hey, they are Republicons. What else would one expect of them?
- They thought they had a man who would unite Iraq. The guy, who's name I forget, was an exiled Iraqi who was one of the guys who pushed for the invasion to begin with. But at the last moment, it he was exposed as being corrupt, the Iraq people hated him and all their plans fell apart. Instead they put Bremmer in charge and he made one mistake after another.
- 911 demanded a response. Iraq was as good a target as any for a demonstration of US resolve. It stood for the proposition that you cannot tweak the nose of the big guys and get away with it. Also, it was a threat to our allies: Israel, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
- He has a cortical 0-2 deficiency.
- I agree with your answer to your own question. You are right! We really didn't know enough about Cheney ten years ago, even though his former CEO job with Halliburton was public knowledge. Giving his former employer a no-bid contract, that has already amounted to billions, was a slick move by tricky-Dick. Imagine how his off-shore accounts have grown, as he has been dubbed a "war profiteer". He is a perfect example of a true neocon!
- The world situation changed. 9/11 happened, and that changed a lot of minds about how we should handle someone like Saddam with his unaccounted for WMD and support of terrorists. Also, there was no support from anybody else to expand the mission of the Gulf War from kicking Iraq out of Kuwait to overthrowing Saddam. Plus, there was nobody who proposed or believed that Iraq could be transformed into a democratic republic. They all believed that removing Saddam would result in a pro-Iran Shiite take-over of Iraq. It was based on the realpolitik view of the world, where the devil we knew was better than the unknown. Considering the conventional wisdom about Iraqis before the invasion, what they've managed to accomplish in 5 years is quite amazing, really.
- He had cardiac arythmia so his brain was deprived of blood flow on more than one occasion over the past 10 year. Ever notice how Bill Clinton also changed after HIS cardiac problems in 2004.
- As Cheney would say about his conversion from containment to Iraq war proponent, "So?" The real reason for his determination was not 9/11 (as he so frequently espouses) but for his greed and his hegemonously-based super power desire rule supreme. He can taste the millions of dollars to be gained in controlling Middle Eastern oil profits.
- Don't you think that people should be able to change their minds, depending on circumstances? In 1998 President Bill Clinton said, "U.S. forces will act unless Iraq's Saddam Hussein allows U.N. inspectors free and unfettered access to suspected weapons sites." "U.S. objectives are to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and to reduce Hussein's capacity to threaten his neighbors." "Hussein has the means and the will to use these weapons and proved it many times in Iraq's decade-long war with Iran. "He used chemical weapons against combatants, against civilians, against a foreign adversary and even against his own people." "The biggest failure would be to do nothing. "If we fail to respond today, Saddam, and all those who would follow in his footsteps, will be emboldened tomorrow." - - And now isn't he (or his wife) and the liberal media (and you) calling it a quagmire? - - What has changed in the last 10 years for them? - - Oh, that's right, she is running for President, with far reaching powers to advance the liberal socialist global dominance agenda, by taxing the rest of us working people and the companies which provide us employment, while making the socialist government beaurocrats and their friends rich; while keeping the poor downtroden in a state of dependence on the government, thus ensuring thier votes for more liberal politicians. - - And who has made 109 Million dollars in the last 7 years (without a job at all)? - - Flip-Flop? What changed? =====================================
- After him and Bush Jr did their first 69 Dick's political views changed forever. You don't know Dick.
