What if there was a website where governments could post open bid contracts for jobs?
And was set up to allow people and companies to bid on them online? Would this be a good way to lower costs for all government contracts spending as few tax dollars on them as possible allowing for this money to be spent on more urgent areas such as catalyzing the move towards enviromental friendliness for all countries or for the care of the poor or sick or old and infeeble or orphans, or a combination of all of them?

- Stan, As a libertarian, free market capitalist I am in concurrence with your idea. While I'm not an extremist (we do need some government to keep us organized) I do feel that privatizing many things would improve the efficiency of projects. There is more motivation for a private contractor to 1) finish quickly and 2) do a quality job. 1) Finish quickly: once the job is done the contractor can move on to another job. If the price and time line are negotiated up front, taking a longer time to finish the job will end up incurring opportunity costs for the contractor. 2) Quality job: the contractor will be liable for crappy work in a legal sense because the company isn't protected by the government, it makes applying blame in situations like the death in the tunnel in Boston b/c of shotty Big Dig work where the MA state government had a hand deep in the pocket of the contractor. Also, the contractor's reputation is on the line. Crappy, slow work will hurt future business endeavors. Our money can be much better spent.
