Is security clearance a must for all federal IT jobs?
I think it is for all GSs and for most contractors in federal IT. Anyone know otherwise?

- nope you do not have to get a security clearance for all jobs iknew people that didn't have them and was gs-7's it does happen it just they can't see alotof paperwork.
- Unfortunately, yes. Security clearance is needed for all federal jobs that work with, or on, any equipment owned by the defense department.
- Yes, all permanent and contact positions with the government require you to have security clearance.
- There are different levels of clearance...all fed jobs will require at a minimum a background check. If you are in an agency/job that requires access to certain types of information you will require a clearance....levels varying, and the amount of time in your past that is reviewed will vary. The FBI goes back to the age of 18. (same is true for contractors) (former US FED/DC/with a TS)
