Is the Government trying to control us all?

A friend made a statement to me a while ago: "The Government wants us all on welfare. If we were all on welfare then we would be obliged to do their bidding. Complete control of the people." Now with economic downturn, poor education standards and/or opportunities, unemployment on the rise and more and more people turning to welfare, this statement seems somewhat viable... somewhat. What do you think?

15. Politicians want votes. People in bureaucracies want more power for their agencies, but those bureaucrats are tightly constrained by the politicians. So, being as politicians want votes, they will do whatever the people like for the votes. Anyone who doesn't like what the government is doing should take votes away from the representatives that are doing what they don't like, i.e. organizing against those representatives. It is a simple matter of what people want. There aren't many people in politics that want actual power. They simply want to be politicians, whatever that means for them.

It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free. In Communism as with Socialism, the people own everything, not the government. Also, Communism is only successful when the need for government ceases to exist.

19. Yes I hear that pretty soon they are going to start tapping phones without a warrant.... oh wait a sec... The government doesn't want everyone on welfare, that is delusional. How is giving someone a litte money every month, complete control? Complete control must start with authoritarian unitary policy. A little bit of help for the poor isn't going to do it. Now on the other hand, some of those manless drones with entire squadrons controlled by a single person would do it.

22. I am living it. The people of my nation do not understand that the government is enveloping them in a form of modern slavery. All they see is the freebies dangling in front of their faces. They do not understand where the freebies come from because the laws passed in this country are set up to encourage them to fail at school. We have single moms at school encouraging their daughters to have children so their families can make more money. We have kids whose parents encourage them to fail in class because they will get an increase social security check for being classified as an exceptional student. The students tell me that they do not need to pass school because the government is going to pay for them to live. I work for a living. I have bought and insured my 3 cars and home, I have life and health insurance for my family, I put grocery on the table every week, we go on summer vacations, my kids are in swimming, tennis, and gymnastics, and we do not want for much. It kills me that our president is raising taxes on everything and doing it in a manner that the uneducated masses will not know he is doing it. My families way of life will eventually suffer because I am going to have to support the uneducated, zombies who put the socialist in charge of this country. I learned the trade of plumbing starting at age 13. In my twenties, I worked 40 hours a week cooking at nights so I could go to college by day. I have gone back to school numerous times to increase my education level and am currently inrolled in a class. Everything that I have done to make my families life better will be taken from me for my effort and given to someone who opted to sit on his bum his whole life. What justice is there in that? Our president is destroying the country by telling everyone that he is going to hand out new and improved freebies. He is taking control of every financial institution in the country. The government will have its hands in all of the loan industries, insurance industries, auto industries, and is trying to put through a massive bill to rape the power industry. (The people do not realize the unending reaches of the power tax he wants, we will pay for it on every item we purchase.) The scary aspect of it all is that the government has been in charge of our social security and they already spent it, how can we be dumb enough to let the have everything else? We are slowly becoming their slaves. This is why I teach.
23. That statement is scare mongering drivel of the type put out by right wing extremists who's ideas and policies have led us to the mess we are in now. Why do you think we have poor education? Could it be because ot the neglect of the public school system in favour of the private sector as perfected by the conservative government of the last 11 years? What sort of "bidding" are these people on welfare supposed to do that the government is so keen on? They certainly aren't going to thank them by voting for them at the next election.
