Do you agree with our Nations largest Veteran organization?
Do you agree that our veterans have the right to speak out about illegals? Do you agree with the 30 page bulletin that educates more Americans about illegals and the dangers it puts this country in. Don't you agree that our veterans know more about this subject considering their experience serving our country? U.S. veterans attack illegal immigration Legion: 'America has a serious problem that needs to be addressed' -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted: January 13, 2009 9:41 pm Eastern By Drew Zahn © 2009 WorldNetDaily The nation's largest veterans organization released this week a policy bulletin that takes a firm stand against illegal immigration and calls on its members to hold elected officials accountable for implementing and enforcing U.S. immigration law. The 30-page bulletin is officially titled, "The American Legion Policy on Immigration: A Strategy to Address Illegal Immigration in the United States." "The American Legion members have served in the U.S. Armed Forces throughout the world so that Americans can be safe at home," the organization's website explains. "This gives them a unique perspective to the threat that open borders present to their homeland." "America is a nation built by immigrants and the American Legion recognizes and celebrates that," said National Commander David K. Rehbein in a press release. "We do take strong issue, however, with illegal immigration. It's a matter of national security. The 9/11 hijackers and three of the men who plotted to kill innocent Americans at Ft. Dix were perfect examples of terrorists exploiting our weak immigration laws and our lack of enforcement. This booklet is a good reminder that America has a serious problem that needs to be addressed." The booklet itself makes the Legion's position clear in a statement that stands alone on the first page. "The American Legion is opposed to any person or persons being in this country illegally, regardless of race, sex, creed, color or national origin," the bulletin states. "We believe the current laws governing immigration should be enforced impartially and equally." Originally founded in 1919 on an idea proposed by Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. (the president of the same name's eldest son), the Legion has now grown to a membership of more than 2.6 million wartime veterans organized in more than 14,000 posts nationwide. The policy bulletin explains, "Legionnaires subscribe to a creed, 'To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order and to foster and perpetuate a 100 percent Americanism.' These words are recited in unison at Legion meetings and represent a continuing contract of service to benefit America and it is this commitment by Legionnaires that is the fuel for action on illegal immigration and other national security concerns facing this country." The Legion hopes the policy booklet will educate the American public on how "the security, economy and social fabric of the United States of America is seriously threatened by individuals who are illegally in this country." "Illegal immigration is not a victimless crime," the booklet states. "The poor, minorities, children and individuals with little education are particularly vulnerable. It causes an enormous drain on public services, depresses wages of American workers, and contributes to population growth that, in turn, contributes to school overcrowding and housing shortages. Directly and indirectly, U.S. taxpayers are paying for illegal immigration." In financial terms, the booklet cites a report by the Center for Immigration Studies that claims the average illegal alien household in 2003 paid approximately $4,200 in federal taxes while, on average, created $7,000 in costs at the federal level. In response to what it sees as a contributing factor to crime, terrorism, unemployment and depressed wages, the Legion proposes the following five-point strategy urging the federal government to enact the following steps: 1. Secure the borders and other points of entry in the United States, including construction of a physical barrier and sufficient Border Patrol presence. 2. Eliminate the jobs magnet and social services benefits that draw illegal immigrants to the U.S. by enforcing laws sanctioning employers who hire illegal aliens, implementing employment eligibility verification and eliminating government benefits for illegal aliens. 3. Eliminate amnesty laws that permit illegal aliens to break the law and remain in the U.S. 4. Reduce the U.S. illegal alien population by attrition through workplace enforcement, interagency and interstate cooperation, rejection of driver's license plans, mandating English as national language and establishing parameters for noncriminal deportations. 5. Screen and track foreign visitors legally entering the United States. The plan further calls for who hides behind a no email, i do not. i get crank e-mails all the time from rude people who like to spat off and then block you. all that means is they know they can not win the arguement and makes my day.

- Yes, I do agree with them, and I also appreciate their service to our country.
- Good for them! We need more large organizations to speak up about the obvious. Staying quiet because you don't want to make waves since the Illigal immigrant groups claim racism at the drop of a hat if you question it. Screw em they're breaking the system.
- Completely agree.... These are the guys that fought and paid with blood to defend our freedoms and lives.. Everyone should listen to what they say, as they have sacrificed the most for this country...
- That have seen more of the world than the rest of us and as a whole they are usually older and wiser.
- i live in phx, az where there is a huge illegal immigration thing going on and i have known illegals, worked with them, talked to them and honestly i trust them more than i do my white neighbor. i am a young white girl and if illegals weren't around my city just wouldnt be as fun these old guys are probably just racist like Sherriff Arpaio he makes phx dangerous not the illegals i got in a bad car accident a few years ago and i was trapped in my car like three cars passed me by in the intersection (regular american people) and then two illegals pulled over and yanked me out then took off before the cops came. they saved my life so yeah i hate this whole bad immigrant thing its so lame most people that say they are bad dont know anything about them
- I agree. Take away incentives and they will not come. It was when they found out their babies were eligible for welfare that they came and stayed.
- christ, thanks for the long winded question.i had to jump on this opertunity to answer someone who hides behind a no email setting after saying hatfull mean things.well here it goes: 1.yes 2.30 pages could have been written by some wackjob,so no it might be bull. 3.my uncle says "no",he served in viet nam. and after all that other bable, the one through five things we could do,,,i agree with 2-5....the first one is a load.....making a big big wall isnt going to help......it is a sybol of or fear making a wall....throut history walls have been breeched...making a wall makes others want on the other side.i dont like the idea of wasting money on a usless wall.only wallhuggers need one.they should build one around their house.not make me pay for something soooo useless......
- I actually changed my avatar in honor of those who fought, and died defending my rights, and I agree with them on this 100%.
- Yes, I agree! And to "JUST A GIRL", do tell how you knew that the ones that drove by you were just "regular" Americans lmfao! They could have been illegal just as well. And did you ask the ones that helped you if they were illegal and that was why they ran before cops came. Or maybe they were fugitives wanted for murder, rape etc. You people crack me up. Oh, and MadKat, I actually don't allow emails but Im not scared of anyone I just dont give a flying "F" what others think and I sure won't waste my time arguing with them. Of course I agree with everything you say so that is not directed at you.
- I agree! My 11 month old knows more about illegals and the affects of their invasion than the pro illegals/libs.
- America, freedom of speech. Anyone has the right to speak for or against anything. The Veterans have the right to say anything they like. I have a right (being an American) not to read biased racist drivel from the World Net Daily.
- As a veteran myself, I agree 100 percent. I like what you found
- Yes, I agree 100%, I fully support our veterans! I think all immigration both legal and illegal should be stopped all together. There are to many immigrants in America and we don't need to be overpopulated.
- Kat, many times our eyes do not meet but this question is ask well. I have to admit when I saw 30 pages I couldn't help but think that I would never form an answer short enough to be posted. First for the American Legion's "bulletin", I have to admit that it is written rather well. The points that it makes are those that are brought up here on Yahoo minus the descriptive names like anchor babies and leaches or racist and bigot. This is a good example of a balanced explanation to their opinion. Can I agree with it, yes with a majority of the proposal. It was said in there that "Differences are so vast that it is unlikely any congressional immigration reform package will meet with widespread approval from the increasingly frustrated populace." so far in my first reading I have only a few parts to which I disagree. The first being "When the United States shows it has control of its borders, then and only then should Congress consider guest worker or temporary worker initiatives." If the goal is to control immigration and stop illegal immigration as a whole then why should they ask for guest workers? Quoting President Roosevelt was a nice touch but what was quoted is inaccurate. The quote used is culled from a number of speeches given on different dates. http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/troosevelt.asp If anyone feels snopes is a disappointment for a supporting link I can understand as I feel the same disappointment towards links from WorldNetDaily. Than go here I will save you some searching and link to the needed page. http://www.theodoreroosevelt.org/tr%20web%20book/TR_CD_to_HTML280.html But President Roosevelt also said "Never under any condition should this Nation look at an immigrant as primarily a labor unit. He should always be looked at primarily as a future citizen and the father of other citizens who are to live in this land as fellows with our children and our children's children. Our immigration laws, permanent or temporary, should always be constructed with this fact in view. (December 1, 1917.) Roosevelt in the Kansas City Star, 58" Then with what is said in the bulletin on page 20, “…. That The American Legion work with CIS to obtain congressional approval and national acceptance of the plan which includes increased noncriminal removals through increased interior enforcement…” The problem I have is not in what they seek to obtain but in who they feel they need to work with for this process. CIS or Center for Immigration Studies is to me a biased source. An open look at their website shows what I am referring to. http://www.cis.org/ Of course though that is what this is about, although I still feel that the American Legion can stand on their own. Finally your post said "The booklet itself makes the Legion's position clear in a statement that stands alone on the first page. " What I found more interesting as a clear position was in a paragraph that followed shortly after. "This booklet is not intended to be a technical manual or an extensive compendium on the many aspects of illegal immigration. The items brought out in this brief review reflect, in the opinion of The American Legion, the more recurring concerns raised in debate on the issues of illegal immigration, whether the debate be within the halls of Congress or among the American people." In other words this bulletin is an opinion of the American Legion about the illegal immigration issue and what they think, feel or need to get done to help resolve it. - Yes, Most Americans agree that the USA should enforce its immigration laws except for libs and Hispanic groups. You have some pro-illegal alien spies who respond with hatred to your questions. Make sure that these people are not linked to you. Shane.
- Yes, I do agree. They have the right to speak about illegal immigrants and all the associated crime that comes with it. They have the right because they served in the US Military to defend this country and they were always there when the calling came. It is an insult to them when the rest of the country cannot do its part in national defense such as border patrol and immigration control. They recognize that illegal immigration is a crime and it does contribute to the overall erosion of national defense. The legion was being factual and fair in how to fix this problem. US Military veterans are more knowledgeable, worldly, and wiser than most provincial civilian Americans and definitely illegal immigrants. These veterans see the “big picture” of life. Additional Comments: There are a lot of veterans and US Citizens who are of Spanish descent and are very much against illegal immigration.
- I think they agree with me!
- So Chief...what is it you are saying ??? I will tell you all how I feel... The Legion is correct in what it says... and how it says it... The disclaimer only says that it is their View... But then they have about a Million Members that have "Been There, Done That"... Personally I feel "ALL" illegals from any country should be rounded up and sent packing... I am not a member of the American Legion... but I am a Legal immigrant that served two tours in Vietnam and became a US Citizen. What the American people fail to understand is even the amount of Marriage VISA's that were granted 60% turned out to be Fraudulent and the next 30% were divorced after the two year Conditional VISA was up and they had been granted a permanent one. Can see the Second American revolution just around the corner...
- Yes I do. They articulate the same reasoning, common sense, and plan that 70% of the U.S. Citizens have passed on to their State and Government Representatives via writing, calling, and faxing to kill any form of amnesty/pathway to citizenship for illegals. This is also nothing less than the Americanization Movement that Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and Louis Brandeis, James Madison, George Washington, in a letter to John Adams, and Alexander Hamiton among others. Teddy Roosevelt spoke in the manner of legal immigrants coming for a better life chief. Not illegals. In the snopes link you provided - the Feb. 1 1916 speech says it all. I would copy and paste, but the site won't allow me to. I found more on what TR has always said. "In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one soul [sic] loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people." "You cannot dedicate yourself to America unless you become in every respect and with every purpose of your will thoroughly Americans. You cannot become thoroughly Americans if you think of yourselves in groups. A man who thinks of himself as belonging to a particular national group in America has not yet become an American." "However great his outward conformity, the immigrant is not Americanized unless his interests and affections have become deeply rooted here. And we properly demand of the immigrant even more than this--he must be brought into complete harmony with our ideals and aspirations and cooperate with us for their attainment. Only when this has been done will he possess the national consciousness of an American." "In response to the mass immigration at the turn of the century Congress passed the Naturalization Act of 1906‑07, which strengthened citizenship requirements. Specifically, Congress required new citizens to be able to speak English and answer questions about American history and government. In addition, political opponents, such as anarchists, of the American "proposition" were forbidden to become citizens. Later in the century, the obligation to "serve in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by law" was added to the oath of citizenship. Historian Philip Gleason notes that interest in these issues "began to wane" with the immigration restrictions of the 1920s, until they were revived in the 1960s. With the new wave of immigration after changes in immigration law in 1965, one heard little about Americanization and much about cultural pluralism and multiculturalism. However, by the late 1990s, the idea of Americanization was slowly beginning to make a comeback. Two books, Assimilation, American Style, by Peter Salins, and The Unmaking of Americans: How Multiculturalism Has Undermined America's Assimilation Ethic, by John J. Miller, advocated support for the traditional approach to patriotic assimilation and Americanization.
