Can the federal government impair the provisions of a contract?

Public Comments

  1. No. It's unconstitutional.
  2. no, I think its time to impair the provisions of the federal government
  3. Should be legal if there's fraud involved or dirty deals done at taxpayers expense.
  4. The courts might be able to, but Congress cannot. But the courts will not do it automatically. A case will have to be brought before the court. And, after the case, there is always the appeals, and it gets dragged on for years and years.
  5. Article I section 10 of the Constitution prohibits a STATE from impairing the "obligations" of a contract. That has a specific meaning and it may not be what you were asking a about.
  6. I think thats a really slippery slope to head down.
