Can a government contracting company pay me as a sub-contractor?
I would like to take a job with a government contracting company but I would prefer to be a 1099 sub-contractor and not a W-2 employee. Has anyone heard of a company doing this?

- absolutely
- I am a subcontractor to a government contracting company. The agency I support (NASA) does not allow their contracting company to retain individuals unless they have passed the necessary checks to have the business relationship. Although I have a DBA and support other clients, the contracting company is prohibited from hiring me directly, and must retain me through a placement agency, where I am a W-2 epmloyee. I suspect different agencies are different. This is just my experience.
